At SCAR community animal hospital, we provide Vaccinations to protect your pets from common infectious diseases from 6-8 weeks of age to ensure they are happy and healthy.

As part of your pets visit for his/her vaccination, the Veterinarian will perform a consultation which includes a thorough nose to tail exam to detect any health concerns or identify other health related issues such as heart murmurs, ear infections, lumps and bumps, skin allergies and dental disease that may be present.

Consultations
At the SCAR Community Animal Hospital, our veterinary team take great joy in providing high quality and compassionate health care to our client’s treasured pets. We believe that veterinary care should be affordable and accessible to all pet owners, so we do our best to ensure our fees are amongst the lowest in Victoria.

We offer a 10% discount on our veterinary services for Pension Card or Health Care Card holders*.

All profits from our veterinary clinics go towards helping us care for the homeless animals in our shelter. By allowing our team to care for your animal at the SCAR Community Animal Hospital, you’re helping us care for ours.

Our consult fees are based on the length of the consult. Our standard consultations are approximately 15 minutes, these are straightforward appointments such as single problems, microchipping, dental checks, estimates etc. Our extended consultations are approximately 30 minutes and are for more complex issues, such as a pet with multiple problems, ear/skin/eye issues, second opinions, elderly pets etc.

* Pension Card or Health Care Card holders are entitled to a 10% discount on veterinary services (excludes pet food, medications, consumables, and microchips). The card must be shown at each visit to be eligible, and we cannot backdate discounts.

Desexing
There are many benefits to having your pet desexed and it is one of the most frequent surgeries performed by our veterinarians.
All desexing fees include pain relief on the day and take-home pain relief.

We offer payment plans to customers who are experiencing financial hardship to help cover the costs of your pet’s veterinary care. These plans are offered via our partners Zip Pay and Vetpay, allowing pet owners to have their pet’s needs attended to sooner and pay for the vet bill over a timeline that suits their lifestyle.

Desexing or neutering your pet is a surgical procedure that prevents them from being able to reproduce. This is one of the most frequent surgery performed by our vets and we aim to make this experience as stress free for both owner and pet.

We have reduced desexing fees and we aim to make desexing affordable for everyone. We frequently hold desexing days at even more reduced rates for Hume residents and are aiming to service people in other council shires as well.

There are many benefits to desexing your pet, they include:

• Preventing unwanted litters, which can be very costly, and may add to the already overwhelming number of stray animals that are put down each year
• Prevention of testicular cancer and prostate disease in males, and it can help prevent pyometra (infection of the uterus) and mammary tumours (breast cancer) in females
• Stopping the “heat” cycle in females (females come into season approximately every 6 months)
• Reduction of council registration fees

Did you know that 80% of pets suffer some form of dental disease, so they need regular check-ups too!

As your pet ages, they will naturally develop a layer of Plaque on their teeth, which hardens to become a solid layer over the tooth called Tartar. If not effectively managed, this can turn into Gingivitis, an inflammation of the surrounding gums. Any inflammation and infection of the gums can have a direct effect on your pet’s heart and kidneys.

Signs of dental disease include:

• Bad Breath (Halitosis)
• Inflamed Gums (Gingivitis)
• Loose teeth
• Facial swelling
• Excessive Salivation (Drooling)
• Reluctance to eat or chew

The SCAR Animal Hospital takes the well-being and happiness of our feline friends very seriously and are currently in the progress of aiming to become a certified cat friendly clinic with the catfriendlyclinic.org!

We now have a cosy and dedicated waiting space for cats when they come to visit us, so they don’t need to see any dogs whilst in our clinic! This space has carrier covers that have been sprayed with de-stressing  Feliway pheromones and stools for the carriers to be placed on so our kitty friends stay high and not down on the ground.

We hope that our kitty friends (and their lovely owners) enjoy their special waiting area.

We offer digital X-ray technology which allows us to produce high-quality, high-resolution X-ray images more efficiently than traditional film X-rays.

The benefit of having this equipment readily available within our clinic means we can quickly diagnose injuries, particularly in emergency situations.

We can perform a preliminary ultrasound of your pet in our hospital, we also work closely with an external Ultrasonographer who performs Ultrasounds within our clinic Monday – Friday.

Your pet is admitted for the procedure between 8:00am – 9:00am and a discharge appointment will be made upon the conclusion of the ultrasound. Our team ensures your pet is kept comfortable during their stay and results of the Ultrasound will be communicated at the discharge appointment.

Our team can perform a range of pathology tests within our clinic and also work closely with external laboratories.

We can perform a blood test in hospital on our state of the are HESKA blood machines and receive results within 15 minutes! We can use these machines to provided Pre- anaesthetic blood tests for your pet before a surgical procedure to make sure your pet’s internal organs are functioning well before any anaesthetic is administered.

We can also within our clinic we are able to perform Urine, Blood and Faecal tests, along with examining Ear and Skin swabs to determine the cause of your pet’s concern.

We understand that this can be a stressful time for you and your pet, so we go to every length to make sure you are both comfortable before, during and after any surgical procedure.
