A Second Chance Together: Jarrod and Tyrian’s Story

Sometimes, we don’t get to find out how the story ends… but this one found its way back to us...

Close to 4 years ago, Jarrod contacted SCAR when he had hit rock bottom. He was facing the worst time of his life, without a home and at times living on the streets with his best mate, Tyrian the cat.

Through the hardest days of his life, Tyrian was his constant. His comfort, his companion and his reason to keep going.

Surrendering Tyrian was never an option.

Tyrian came into the care of our Safe House for Pets Program while Jarrod worked to rebuild his life. His biggest motivation was simple… he wanted to get back on his feet so he and Tyrian could be together again.

When they were finally reunited, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Recently, our team had the most wonderful surprise when Jarrod and Tyrian returned to SCAR for a vet check-up.

They both looked incredible!!

Jarrod was working, had reconnected with his family and was building a life he was proud of. He told us they now love camping together, with Tyrian exploring the bush and curling up beside the campfire.

Together. Where they belong. This is why we do what we do.

Because sometimes, helping a pet means helping their person too.

Our Safe House for Pets Program gives people experiencing crisis a safe place for their beloved pets while they work towards a better future… helping keep families together when they need each other most.

*Due to the physical nature of working in the shelter, volunteer roles may involve significant amounts of manual handling, and a reasonable level of fitness is required. Manual handling includes sustaining repetitive movements of lifting/bending, pushing/pulling, twisting/turning and walking for extended periods of time. Some heavy lifting up to 15kg may be required.
