Corporate Volunteering

Invest in the culture of your organisation, and give back to animals in need!

SCAR’s Corporate Volunteering Program has been designed to provide your team with an informative, hands-on and supportive experience within our animal shelter here in Craigieburn. Not only is volunteering a fantastic activity for teams, it’s also integral to the day-to-day functions of our animal shelter.

How You and Your Team Can Make a Big Difference

Give Back To Your Community

As a charity, our resources are often limited, so assistance from external corporate volunteers (paired with our internal volunteers), is vital to ensuring that our shelter is always maintained and operating to the highest and safest standards; all the while ensuring the animals in our care receive the best level of enrichment and love!

Whilst volunteering with SCAR, we promise your team a unique, fun, and memorable experience learning how our shelter is run through a range of tasks – from general cleaning, basic maintenance, building food parcels, fundraising activities, assisting with our vital outreach programs and, of course, helping to take care of our beloved animals onsite!

Learning as a Team

It’s not uncommon for organisations to find the time for their employees to break away from their desk in order to learn something new, interact and form connections with their respective peers, or collaborate on a joint project that can have a meaningful impact on the wider community.

Our corporate volunteering and outreach programs are designed to do just that; our aim is to bring people together to do great things.

We invite your team to join us!

Support Our Lifesaving Work

Our operation is a small one, which means we often find ourselves short of resources…. By having as many hands on deck to tackle the everyday important tasks, it means that our shelter team will be afforded the capacity to extend their focus on some of the more urgent and critical services for the community, such as rescuing, rehabilitating and most importantly, rehoming our homeless animals.

Our outreach programs have also proven that many of the important conversations and stories that are shared during our time together have gone on to inspire more conversations beyond our four walls at the shelter. This is invaluable to the work we do at SCAR. We need your help to spread the word for those who are voiceless.

What You Need To Know!

Your hands-on experience in our animal shelter can include many different things – from helping us to care for our animals, assisting in the running of our pet outreach programs as well as our shelter facility.

Some volunteer activities may include:

  • Assisting in the day-to-day care of our shelter animals, spending time on enrichment, exercising and helping to socialise animals in need (including animal cuddles of course!)
  • Packing bags of pet food for our Pet Food Pantry, which is then distributed to community pet owners in need and to our over 385 charity partners across Victoria
  • Assisting with fundraising activities (such as tin rattles etc.)
  • Gardening and Shelter maintenance
  • Sorting and cleaning toys and blankets
  • And so much more!

Days:

  • Monday – Friday

Times:

  • 9:30am – 2:30pm
  • 11:00am – 4:00pm

A team of 4 – 12 volunteers can be accommodated per session.

If your team is larger than 12 volunteers, we may be able to accommodate. Please contact us to discuss.

Please note: All volunteers must be aged over 18.

Like similar organisations, we ask for a contribution to complement your volunteers’ efforts. This vital financial contribution will provide essential veterinary care for up to 10 shelter animals who need a second chance, or provide the equivalent of 1,500 pet food meals for pet owners who are currently facing hardship to feed their pets.

For all corporate volunteers, the cost per group is:

  • Up to 6 people – $800 per session
  • Up to 12 people – $1000 per session
  • For groups larger than 12 people, please contact us to discuss.
  • All sessions include GST.

An invoice will be sent upon booking with 14-day payment terms. Payment is required via direct deposit, cash or credit card payment.

Volunteers are crucial to the operations of our charity organisation. If you are unable to meet your commitments, please let us know as early as possible, and we will endeavour to find an alternative date.

Late cancellations or failure to attend impacts our operations as we must employ staff and find volunteers to ensure we continue to provide our vital services to people and their pets in our community. Therefore, we appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your booking.

  • A 50% fee is applied to cancellations within 14 days of your corporate volunteer session.
  • A 100% fee is applied to cancellations within 7 days of your corporate volunteer session.

Due to the physical nature of the work we do in our animal shelter, some tasks involve certain amounts of manual handling, including lifting/bending, twisting/turning, repetitive movements and standing for extended periods of time.

We can however do our best to find alternative activities to work around volunteer abilities if required. Please speak to our team if you have any concerns regarding this.

Wear Comfortable Shoes and Clothing

  • Wear clothing that is suitable for bending, lifting movements and being around animals.
  • Shorts/pants/leggings/jeans with a comfortable t-shirt and jumper is recommended.
  • Closed toe, comfortable shoes with good grip are required.
  • Please Note: A detailed guide will be provided for reference when you sign up to volunteer.

Bring Your lunch

  • Please bring a water bottle along on the day to stay hydrated.
  • We have a fridge, microwave, and tea/coffee facilities.
  • Please note, lunch break is 30-60mins depending on the group.
  • There is also a café nearby. If you’d like to pre-arrange catering for your team, please contact us. Alternatively, you can refer to online ordering services to deliver food into the shelter.
