Merrin Torpy | Mezzo-soprano

Merrin’s musical adventure has been a wild ride through classical vocal studies via Early Music and courtly arts and way out west to the accordion-slinging, petticoat-donning Western Swing movement.

Merrin is a mezzo-soprano whose career highlights include singing with Suzanne Johnston at Hamer Hall in 2015, alto soloist Handel’s Messiah with the Bendigo Chorale and Bendigo symphony, appearing in Suor Angelica with Cordelia’s Potted Operas in 2017, and returning annually to play the closing concert at the Guildford Banjo Jamboree with the Tequila Mockingbirds.

By day she is a speech pathologist working with people who stutter, by night, a dabbling diva delighting with ditties divers and dramatic.

*Due to the physical nature of working in the shelter, volunteer roles may involve significant amounts of manual handling, and a reasonable level of fitness is required. Manual handling includes sustaining repetitive movements of lifting/bending, pushing/pulling, twisting/turning and walking for extended periods of time. Some heavy lifting up to 15kg may be required.
