We have finally done it – WE ARE OPEN!!

With your help we have seen our dream facility come to life – Hume’s one and only Community Animal Hospital and Shelter! After years of dreaming, months of planning and countless weeks of moving, painting, and set up we are more than glad to confirm that we have downed the paint brushes and are ready to go!

During the soft launch of our new site we started up our adoption processes again and also began seeing a select amount of clients through our hospital site so that we could fine tune all of our processes and get everything working as it should be! During that time we performed 43 surgeries, ran 12 medical consultations, assisted 6 pets via our outreach program and adopted out 29 rescue animals – and all before the official opening! One of the surgeries that took place in our clinic during our soft launch was Hobbles’ leg amputation. Our amazing Dr Kylee and Nurse Anna did such a great job and he has now healed well enough that he is ready to find his new home (Check out his video on our Facebook Page!).

Our boarding cattery is only 1 week away from being completed as we are waiting on our larger sized cages to be delivered, we will be able to house up to 32 felines who will be cared for and doted on by our trained cattery team. Our education room and class timetable is also ready to go so keep your eyes peeled for some fun and exciting workshops, seminars and fundraisers coming soon! Ten amazing local artists have donated their time and talents to create pieces of art throughout the new shelter, cattery and hospital areas. The added splash of colour and fun images have helped to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere throughout! A huge thanks to the team at Dulux for donating over $20k of paint to not only paint the entire place but to also assist in creating many of these fun art pieces!

Last week was extremely busy for our team! On Thursday, in the early hours of the morning we welcomed Sam Mac and the production team from Sunrise, as well as the famous (and very fluffy) Dulux dog, to our new site and had a great time being on film during the weather crosses live on Channel 7. This was followed by our government and media open day where our ambassador Lara Shannon and I lead a group of delegates through our new facility to showcase our work, talked about our future plans and cut a ribbon to officially open our new site. This was of course followed by some delicious cake! And then on the Saturday we held an open day for members of the public where groups were given a guided tour throughout our facility by one of our staff members… we gave 36 group tours on that day and had around 150 people through the facility which was amazing.

Once again, we would like to sincerely thank everyone that helped us to get to this point! To everyone that donated, volunteered their time and supported us in any way – Thank You!!

We look forward to sharing all of our new adventures with you while we begin this exciting new chapter at SCAR.
