September / October News

September and October have been amazing months!!

Shelter Manager Gemma, Vet Dr Kylee and I attended the Getting 2 Zero (G2Z) conference in QLD to learn more about things happening in the animal welfare industry. We heard about lots of new concepts and ways to improve how we are currently doing things here. We believe that ongoing learning is really important for our team so that we can continue to strive for excellence in our field. At the end of the conference we were honoured to be awarded the 2019 Outstanding Animal Shelter award from the Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards! What a way to end an already fantastic event!!

Last month our amazing new Community Animal Hospital facility was broadcast into the lounge rooms of thousands across Australia through Channel 7's Sunrise. This was all thanks to our recent partnership with Dulux Australia and presenter Sam Mac had a great time cuddling puppies and kittens as well as hanging out with our team, volunteers and supporters who came out for an early morning start (5:30am!). Special mention to Kolbe Catholic College students for joining us for the whole time (and after the school term had finished for them too!).

Our inaugural FurBall went off without a hitch and was an amazing success! All of our attendees had a great time, danced the night away and were very generous in helping us reach our fundraising goal. A special thank you to the amazing artists that donated their time to perform at this event, Krishool, Nussy and The Elliots, as well as our wonderful emcee and SCAR ambassador Lara Shannon. We can’t wait for this event to return in 2020, bigger and better!

Our vet clinic has now been running successfully for the last 2 months! We have seen a number of public patients come through for consultations with our vets and performed over 200 surgeries. These ranged from routine desexings and dental procedures to more complicated orthopaedic surgeries. Our clinic is now open to the public from 9am-5pm on Monday-Friday and once things get a little busier we will add in a Saturday as well! All profits from the boarding cattery and vet clinic go directly back to SCAR to ensure we can continue our life-saving work – so please spread the word and help us get people in the door!

We still have a few spaces left in our boarding cattery for the Christmas period so make sure to get in quick if your feline friend needs a place to stay while you are away with the family this Christmas!

We have lots of exciting things happening this month and next, we can't wait to tell you all about them in the next newsletter edition!
